Mamelodi Sundowns will host Kaizer Chiefs this weekend in an Absa Premiership clash and a former midfielder revealed why the Brazilians will have the upper hand.
The two sides have already met this season, although in a friendlier encounter. However, after how it ended on the day, there is the likelihood that Masandawana will be out for revenge this weekend.
Sundowns suffered a 4-2 drubbing at the hands of Chiefs in the Shell Helix Cup, although not against the Brazilians’ ‘strongest’ side.
Speaking in an exclusive feature in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, Roger Feutmba revealed why Sundowns will have the upper hand this time around.
“It is no longer just about the points but the pride as well. Sundowns is a big team and not only in South Africa but the continent as well,” he said.
“Their contribution in continental football is there for everyone to see, as they compete with some of the best in the continent year in and year out. That’s why they always want to win and losing is not an option, so there’s more to this game than just the three points.
“Sundowns may feel they have a score to settle after that embarrassing defeat, but they know why it happened and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“I believe Sundowns go into this game with an advantage because of the quality they have at their disposal.
“I’m not just talking about the quality starting XI but the squad. The players know they have to redeem their pride, the pride of the supporters and the whole club. This is going to be a very, very good game to watch because the players know what’s expected of them,” he added.
