Katsande, Chabalala Begin Sekhukhune Training?

Despite confirming a whopping 18 exits, Sekhukhune United could still make a few tweaks to the squad as the club finalises preparations for their maiden season in topflight football.

Having confirmed the release of 11 players, and sending two players on loan, while the rest of the players have returned to their respective clubs after their loan deals expired, the club could be forced to make a decision on a few more players.

Before parting ways with the 18 players, the newly-promoted club had over 40 players on its books, the Siya crew has been reliably informed.

Zimbabwean midfielder Blessing Sarupinda has been joined by countryman in former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande, as well as on loan Orlando Pirates defender Justice Chabalala, among the latest arrivals at Babina Noko training.

The club is expected to announce the signing of Zambian goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata and Chipolopolo defender Mwila Phiri, who have already been confirmed as signing for Sekhukhune by their club in their home country, Zesco United.

Former Baroka FC defender Cheslyn Jampies is also expected to be unveiled at the club, while defender-cum-midfielder Gladwin Shitolo has been linked with the team after being released from Pirates.

Siyabonga Zulu is said to have done well in training and could be set to join the likes of Charlton Mashumba, Edwin Gyimah, Thabo Rakhale, Tshediso Patjie, Kamohelo Sithole, Tumelo Matona, Seun Ledwaba, Vusimuzi Mncube, Nicholus Lukhubeni, Pogiso Mahlangu and Ryan de Jongh among the new signings at the club.

With head coach MacDonald Makhubedu looking at a squad of 27 players for the 2021/22 season, as indicated in edition 1235 of Soccer Laduma, a few more changes could be made to the Sekhukhune squad before their opening match against Chippa United on August 21.

“We are a small club with a very limited budget, but we want to do well. We want to work with a manageable squad, and I think we’ll have a maximum of 27 players. We’ll try and assemble a competitive squad to try and do well in our first season, and whether we’ll finish in the Top 10 or Top Eight, we’ll see,” said the coach, in the latest Soccer Laduma.
