Kaizer Chiefs have announced their contingency plan following the news to part ways with Stuart Baxter on Thursday; however, the Siya crew takes a look at a few of the candidates who could take over the reins at Amakhosi in the new campaign.
There are seven games left for the Glamour Boys until the end of the season, in which they will be hoping for a strong finish to what has been an underwhelming campaign by their lofty standards of years gone by.
As confirmed by the club, assistant coaches Arthur Zwane and Dillan Shephard will be in the dugout until the end of the season, but there are a number of coaches constantly linked with Amakhosi.
Benni McCarthy
McCarthy is currently jobless and back Scotland where he has been spending time with his family. As reported by the Siya crew, the 44-year-old has been one of Chiefs’ priority targets to take over as their head coach. The coach’s camp has also stated that the only way Benni would return to the country would be to take over a team with the resources to match the coach’s ambitions – although it remains to be seen if Bafana’s all-time goalscorer heeds to the call, should it come.
Arthur Zwane
Zwane has been a loyal servant of Chiefs both as a player and as a coach, where he has served as a development coach before making his way to the first team. As reported by the Siya crew, there is a faction of the Chiefs hierarchy who believe that Zwane is the ideal candidate to take over the club’s hotseat, having bided his time and even rejecting offers from other suitors to remain at the club. A lot will be riding on how Zwane performs in the seven remaining games this season, to show whether he is capable of leading a team the size of Chiefs.
Hossam El Badry
Back in March, the Siya crew reported that the Egyptian coach is open to exploring the Premier Soccer League, specifically Chiefs, where he was shortlisted for the job as Steve Komphela’s replacement in 2015. The coach opted for wealthy Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids at the time, but with Chiefs having sounded out the coach before, it won’t come as a surprise if they look in his direction again.
Molefe Ntseki
The former Bafana Bafana coach is currently Head of Technical and Youth Development Academy at Chiefs, so it would be a seamless transition for Ntseki.
Ntseki was roped in by the club at the start of the season, working closely alongside Kaizer Motaung Jr. Despite not having much topflight coaching experience, Ntseki is vastly experienced and as a former national team coach, would know all about the pressure that comes with working for Chiefs.
