Gift Motupa averages a goal every other game, but yet he’s hardly in the Bidvest Wits starting line-up, with coach Gavin Hunt preferring to use him as an impact player.
The player himself admitted this week that it was, at times, puzzling and said the only person equipped with an answer is Hunt himself.
“I think I have said before that I have been waiting for my chance to play, but this is a situation that I can’t control and I don’t have answer for that,” said Motupa, who is the top scorer for Wits with 11 goals from 20 matches in all competitions.
“You will have to ask the coach about that because I think the technical staff can answer that question better. I don’t complain much, I accept that maybe it is not my time. When I do get to play I believe I deliver.”
Asked what his relationship with Hunt was like, Motupa, who also confirmed he knew Mamelodi Sundowns had approached Wits for his services, said his engagement with the four times league winner was “good”.
“He is not a coach that takes things personally. We have a good relationship, but I don’t have an answer about me not playing regularly. I respect my coach’s decision. I feel I would be selfish if I made this only about me. What I can hope for is to use my chance when it’s given to me, that’s what I can control,” said Motupa.
