Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka has explained why he is not surprised to see Swallows FC flying high in the DSTV Premiership.
The Dube Birds are level on points with leaders Sundowns, but have an inferior goal difference, this after 11 matches. They will have an opportunity to go top of the standings when they visit Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, January 23.
"It’s going to be very difficult obviously because they’ve had a very good start to the season and they’re maintaining their performance every week so we also need to be vigilant but I’m pretty sure they’re just as curious about us since we’ve been having a good run as well," Maluleka told the Sundowns website.
"I’m not surprised really, we played against them during the pre-season and you could already see that they have a team and still were confident after winning the NFD so it was close that time as well when we played but it’s a different ball game now as there’s a lot more at stake so it should be very interesting but I am fully behind the guys [Mamelodi Sundowns] to get a positive result."
Maluleka is getting more opportunities to prove himself at Sundowns, starting the last two matches. He’s made seven appearances in all competitions this season.
“I think I’ve done pretty well every time I’ve been called up to do my duties. The main goal is to be in the starting 11 more frequently and staying injury free so I can contribute to the teams’ success. I am happy so far with my contribution so far and I can only build from here on to the upcoming games and the rest of the season. We’re on top for a reason and that’s because the competition starts at training because everyone wants to play and just elevates the team to do and it goes in our favour as Mamelodi Sundowns when we face opponents.”
