Middendorp Reveals What Improved Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs are enjoying their best start to an Absa Premiership campaign in five years this season, and their head coach is delighted with how they’ve improved in recent months.

The Glamour Boys weren’t favourites for the title at the start of the 2019/20 season following their ninth-place finish last time out, but after 12 games they find themselves sitting pretty at the top of the table, 10 points clear of their nearest competitor – Mamelodi Sundowns.

On the back of their emphatic 4-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC this week, which showed a solid return to form after their shock Telkom Knockout exit, Ernst Middendorp has spoken of what they worked on in order to make sure they bounced back when they returned to league action.

Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, “We regrouped immediately after the game on Sunday… We went on to deal with forward movements and our passing game. Moving and passing form part of a successful game. Tactically, we’ve recently seen opponents close us down quickly. We’ve had to work on the players that would take on opponents in one-on-one situations.

“On Sunday, nobody got moving, we didn’t switch on… Maybe we missed some of the players. It happens when your combinations are interrupted. Stellenbosch FC and some other teams sit back and try to catch you on a counter. Check us back in August when we played against Black Leopards, you could see our passing game improving.”

Next up for the Amakhosi is a clash with Bloemfontein Celtic on December 7 as they look to make it eight wins in a row in the league.
