The Serbian has bagged 10 goals in 15 games so far this season as he continues to lead the Amakhosi line with aplomb, and one of his three against Bloemfontein Celtic was chosen as the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month for December.
Some had expected that the 27-year-old would need time to settle in South Africa after coming from the Slovakian second division, however he’s hit the ground running and is in the fight for this year’s Golden Boot award as he battles it out with the likes of Gabadinho Mhango and Bongi Ntuli.
Middendorp, the man who brought Nurkovic to South African shores, has been impressed with his adaptation in the PSL since his arrival, and is pleased that his goal in the 5-3 win over Celtic added to Chiefs’ trophy haul for 2019/20.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the German said, “Congratulations to Samir for winning the goal of the month award for December... He comes from a different continent and a different style of football, he has contributed well for the team since his arrival. It is good to see the players getting recognition for their hard work and I was also pleased for Dumsani Zuma when he won the goal of the month for November.”
Nurkovic is expected to start once again tomorrow afternoon against Golden Arrows, as he takes aim at reaching Knowledge Musona’s 15-goal tally from 2010/11 – the highest in recent memory for the Glamour Boys.
