Pirates Confirm Crucial Jele Development

Last month, Orlando Pirates centre-back Happy Jele revealed via a virtual media briefing that his wish is to retire at the Soweto giants – the only club he has only ever played for in his professional career.

“So far, I have been happy, you know, the team has been good to me (and) I don’t have a problem with them. I wish one day, if it’s possible to finish my career here – to retire in the team,” Jele said at the time.

The 33-year-old agreed to a one-year extension with the club last year and although it expired on June 30, he remained with side on an extended deal for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.

The Siya crew, broke the news in Soccer Laduma edition 1191 that Jele has agreed to an extension, believed to be for a further year. This has since been confirmed in a statement by the club.

"Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that Happy Jele has signed on the dotted line to extend his stay on board the Buccaneers ship".

The captain has been rewarded with a contract extension for another season.

“This is a place I called home since I joined as a 19-year old,” said Jele.

“The matter of the contract has never been an issue for me because this is home. I have a very good relationship with the Chairman, the door is always open for me. If ever I have issues, I can always go to him.”

Jele, who will celebrate his 14th season as a Buccaneer when the 2020/21 season kicks off next month, continues to impress in the Black and White jersey," the statement read.
