Result Sports have released the official list of the top performing African teams in terms of their online presence and Mzansi’s ‘big three’ comfortably hold their own in the standings. Check it out.
It has become pertinent for teams across the world to perform as well off the field, as they do on it. One of those ways is their social media presence and their engagement with their fans.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social platforms have become integral parts of teams’ communication. Think of the buzz created on social media by a simple Chiefs ‘breaking news’ tweet.
Africa’s most successful team Al Ahly leads the way by a gap in terms of their online presence, with a total of 27 million followers across all their social media platforms, they are followed by Zamalek and Raja Club Athletic with 12 and six million followers respectively.
Both Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates make the top 10. Amakhosi and their four million followers sit in fourth position with Orlando Pirates three million a spot below them.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ one million followers failed to get them in the top 10 in eleventh position, although there are special mentions for the likes of SuperSport United, Cape Town City and Ajax Cape Town who also make the list.
