Result: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Liverpool
Date: 23 January 2020
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Runaway leaders Liverpool registered a 14th straight Premier League victory after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Thursday evening.
Fabinho was once again named among the substitutes as Jurgen Klopp named the same side from Sunday's victory over Manchester United while Wolves were also unchanged.
The visitors went ahead as early as the seventh minute when captain Jordan Henderson turned home a corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Wolves should have levelled matters four minutes later when Ruben Neves' impressive cross found an un-marked Matt Doherty, who somehow headed wide from six-yards out.
It was an end-to-end affair as the first half went on, but the Reds were dealt a big blow on 32 minutes when top scorer Sadio Mane was forced off with an injury and replaced by Premier League debutant Takumi Minamino.
After failing to find a response in the first half, Wolves managed to restore parity five minutes after the break as Adama Traore's pin-point cross found Raul Jimenez, who sent a fine header into the far corner.
The home side were in the ascendancy from thereon and nearly went ahead after 65 minutes when Jimenez played in Traore, who saw his powerful palmed away by Reds shot-stopper Alisson Becker, who also denied Jimenez a few minutes later.
Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio was called upon at the other to deny Roberto Firmino in a one-on-one situation in the box after the Brazilian managed to weave his way past a couple challenges on 81 minutes.
Firmino was not to be denied three minutes later as the Brazilian collected a pass from Henderson before drilling the ball into the top corner from 10-yards out.
Diogo Jota should have sealed the equaliser in second-half stoppage time but the Portuguese winger fired over the crossbar from six-yards out as the Reds held on for the win.
