Mason Greenwood's second-half strike was enough to send Manchester United into the top four following their 1-1 draw with David Moyes' West Ham United.
United made four changes to the side that lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, as Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Anthony Martial returned to the line-up.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's charges almost had a dream start, as Bruno Fernandes sent Martial through on the right channel in the second minute but the Frenchman's low shot was saved by shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianski.
The Hammers were weathering the storm in the opening quarter and they almost stole a lead on the half-hour mark after Angelo Ogbonna rose the highest inside the box to meet Jarrod Bowen's corner but his header missed just wide of the post.
The Red Devils were already getting desperate to break the deadlock and Marcus Rashford had a chance eight minutes before the break after cutting inside from the left but his threatening strike from the edge of the box was parried away by Fabianski.
West Ham were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half-time after Pogba blocked Declan Rise's free-kick with his hands, trying to protect his face inside the box. Michail Antonio was assigned to the penalty spot and he made no mistake as he sent goalkeeper David de Gea the wrong way.
Solskjaer's men came back from the break fired up and they levelled matters six minutes inside the second stanza after Greenwood exchanged short passes with Martial inside the box and the teenager carved out a pocket of space to unleash a rocket of a low strike past Fabianski at the bottom corner.
West Ham almost restored their lead just after the hour-mark after Bowen pulled clear on the right side of the box and unleashed a dangerous strike that De Gea acrobatically tipped his effort over the bar.
Late substitute Odion Ighalo almost snatched the winner for Man United in the last five minutes with his first touch after he received a cut-back from Greenwood at the near post but the Nigerian sliced his strike just wide.
The sides were still searching for the dramatic winner, with the Red Devils having momentum in the tail end but the visitors held on as the sides shared the spoils to send Man United, while West Ham are safe from relegation.
