Orlando Pirates confirmed the exit of winger Thabo Qalinge earlier on Wednesday, and this will now certainly affect their Soweto Derby line-up against rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Black Label Cup next month.
Qalinge had been among the popular choices by fans voting for who should take to the pitch on July 27 at FNB Stadium.
But his departure means the organisers of the pre-season tournament will now have to remove him from the list as an option. ‘Section’, as he is affectionately known in football circles, has been linked with a move to Chiefs, meaning he could very well still take part in the derby.
Another player who is in line to make his Bucs debut is goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo, who joined Pirates from Chiefs last season, but did not make an official debut due to a persistent knee injury.
This week’s latest update on the Pirates starting line-up was as follows:
Pirates XI: Brilliant Khuzwayo, Happy Jele, Innocent Maela, Thabo Matlaba, Mthokozisi Dube, Thabo Qalinge, Luvuyo Memela, Vincent Pule, Thembinkosi Lorch, Justin Shonga, Augustine Mulenga
