“They said, ‘What? Choose a team?” Ian wright said about the reaction he received when he told people before coming down for the Carling Black Label Cup.
The CBL Cup will make its return this year, with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates set to lock horns on July 27 at the FNB Stadium.
Wright, who is a CBL ambassador, revealed his excitement ahead of the game, pointing out that an encounter like this would never happen in England, as they would be too scared of the power that the fans would be able to have.
“The power that the Carling Black Label Cup is giving to the fans is one of those things that… in a game of this magnitude, between Chiefs and Pirates. We saw what happened, Chiefs’ season hasn’t gone so great, Pirates just missed out on the league. A game that they’re going to be competing so vigorously for and the fans, this won’t happen, this couldn’t happen in England because they’d be too scared of this power that the fans are able to have a say,” Wright said at the CBL launch.
