Capitec together with Soccer Laduma found a way to reward and celebrate everyday South Africans, no matter what bank they do their banking with. Every month a winning letter gets published in an edition of Soccer Laduma, however, we have decided to also share the stories of others who have sent in their inspiring letters.
Mchunu Excess’ letter came in as the runner-up for the month of November. He took us back to the time South Africa hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup and how he enjoyed going to the fan parks, especially that he couldn’t afford to purchase tickets to go to the stadiums to watch the matches.
“I remember South Africa hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Having it on our home soil was a chance of a lifetime.
“(The) ticket purchase system was a bit complicated, though and the price was a bit steep for me, however, there were fan parks. Best chance to enjoy watching football, while having a feel of a stadium. I used to enjoy going to the fan parks even after the World Cup.
“A family-friendly outdoor area and awesome vibe. Good business opportunity too because whenever we were feeling peckish or needed a drink to quench the thirst from all the shouting and cheering vendors were all around to offer their service.
“I made a lot of friends there and a lot of good memories. I also saved a lot of money because the entry was free meaning no tickets and no transport to the stadium for me. The idea of fan parks was great.”
Make sure you get this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma to read the full interview. Once more, thank you to those who took the time out to send through their letters. We appreciate your support!
