Capitec together with Soccer Laduma found a way to reward and celebrate everyday South Africans, no matter what bank they do their banking with. Every month a winning letter gets published in an edition of Soccer Laduma, however we have decided to also share the stories of others who have sent in their inspiring letters.
Anele Mdange, decided to open up a savings account to support family back home in Eastern Cape.
“Back in those days, my mother watched me growing up as a little kid going school with no food and with tears in her eyes, but what could she do? Dad wasn't there to play his role as a father. I was an unborn child when he left my mother, by the time I was born my mother made a promise that she'll take care of me from the time she bore me. She really took care of me from that time.
“Passing matric in 2014 I was so happy because the journey of my future started to become clear. I had a plan, but everything started to fall apart when my older brother who was the breadwinner died. As time went on, I got a job in Victoria and Alberts. My twin brother and I started working and we were then the breadwinners of the house. I worked for two years at V&A then left to work at Shell Garage for Theo Everson Motors because the salary was much better than in V&A.
“As I am working at Shell Garage, I opened up a savings account at Capitec, because I have to save money for my mother as she is living in Eastern Cape all alone and not working. Also, I have to take care of my brother, sister and her child. I am the only one who is currently working. One of the Capitec consultants told me that I can open many accounts on just one card. I was surprised, and he explained it to me. I opened four accounts, including a savings account on one card. One account is for my mom, second is for the groceries at home, third is mine and siblings and the fourth one is for my future education. I am so glad the consultant mentioned that to me because I can manage my salary very well.
“The Capitec savings account plan helped me a lot. Now, I can see the reason why I am working. There’s always money even for my mom. She receives her money on time. Even at home we have no more debts or go to a shop and ask for something we will pay on payday.”
