Mazembe Coach On How They Beat SuperSport

TP Mazembe’s Pamphile Mihayo has explained their tactics and how they went about beating SuperSport United in the CAF Confederation Cup final last night.
Mihayo, who is a former Mazembe captain himself, says that his team worked to their tactical gameplan at Lucas Moripe Stadium, coming away with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Matsatsantsa in order to lift the trophy.
SuperSport were unable to create enough chances to win the game and make their away goal in Lubumbashi count, and Mihayo admits that in the second half they were happy to let their opponents have the possession.
He told the media after the game, "Our plan was always to go on the offensive in the first half and we should have taken the lead with two good chances we had in the first 15 minutes… It was our plan to sit back in the second half‚ absorb the pressure and try to catch them on the break.
"I must give credit to my players for sticking to our tactical plan.”
Meanwhile, when asked about his future at the club following the win in Tshwane, he said, “I am the son of this team. TP Mazembe is my team for a long time. I’m here, I’ve given them two cups in one season and it’s for them to decide my future. If they take for me another coach, then I’m there, it’s my team.”
Mazembe will now face Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Super Cup early next year.
