Tinkler Gives Injury Update Ahead Of CAF Showdown
SuperSport United travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo with a small squad of just 17 players due to injury and suspension concerns, and he’s given an update on their present situation.
Tinkler has operated with a relatively small group of players since his arrival at SuperSport earlier this year, but he goes into this weekend’s clash with TP Mazembe with four key players out of contention.
Thabo Mnyamane is still struggling with an injury from the Telkom Knockout final, while Teboho Mokoena missed the Telkom Knockout defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic due to a problem and didn’t travel to the DRC.
Morgan Gould and Reneilwe Letsholonyane are both suspended and didn’t make the trip, although will be back available for selection when Tinkler picks his team for the second leg next weekend.
When asked about Mnyamane and Mokoena’s recovery, Matsatsantsa’s head coach said, “On Thabo Mnyamane, the report we got this week was very positive. He should be back within a couple of weeks I would presume, but he won’t make the second leg of the CAF final. With Mokoena we’re hopeful that he has a chance of making it.”
Meanwhile, on the topic of Gould and ‘Yeye’ being missing, he added, “You want what is your strongest team available. Morgan has been very important and influential for us, and has been performing exceptionally well in my opinion, and so has Yeye.
“They’ve been involved in practically all the games and missing them is obviously a loss. Mokoena too, he’s also been very good for us.”
Mazembe host SuperSport at Stade TP Mazembe at 15h30 tomorrow.
