Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola has indicated that he is looking forward to the end of the CAF Confederation Cup so the team can switch their focus to the league.
The Buccaneers play Al Ahly in the second leg of their semi-final encounter on Sunday and a win or a draw would see them progress to the final of the continental competition.
It seems as though participation in the Confed Cup has had an influence on Bucs’ start to the league campaign as they currently sit 11th on the log with five points from five games.
Makola has indicated that he is looking forward to wrapping up the continental competition so that Pirates can focus their attention on the league.
“I’m just happy that the CAF Confederation Cup is going to be over soon and we can fully concentrate on playing in the PSL. I think we’ll do well, even though we haven’t had a good start,” Makola told Soccer Laduma.
“We are going to be contenders by the end of the season... that I’m dead sure about because we’ve got a bunch of quality players and hard workers.
“I hear people always talking about fatigue when it comes to Pirates, but no, there’s no such thing in football. You look at the guys from Europe. They’re always playing the entire season.
“They don’t get a break and they don’t complain about fatigue. Fatigue is only in the mind because I believe there’s no such thing.”
Do you think that Pirates involvement in the Confed Cup has had an effect on their league performance?
