Dikwena Begin Confed Cup With A Point

CAF Confederation Cup

Result: Platinum Stars 1-1 MC Alger

Date: 14 May 2017

Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium

Platinum Stars played out a 1-1 draw with MC Alger in their opening CAF Confederation Cup group stage clash on Sunday evening.

Brahim Boudeboud grabbed the lead for the Algerian side after six minutes by heading past Steven Hoffman after Dikwena were unable to deal with a corner.

The goal seemed to have sparked some life into Stars and they started to increase the tempo in their play, which led to a couple half chances.

The pressure eventually paid off for Dikwena just before the halftime as Katlego Khonou slotted home from close range, after some good work by Benson Shilongo.

The match went into the interval at 1-1. Dikwena showed great character to get back into the game after conceding early.

The game was evenly matched as the second half got underway however the away side only committed a few players going forward.

Dikwena goalkeeper Hoffman was the difference on the night, as he produced a coupe fine saves after 70 minutes to keep his side in the contest.

Eight minutes later, Shilongo had a great opportunity to put Dikwena ahead but his left-footed shot sailed slightly over the crossbar.

The Algerians also had a late push but were once again denied by the heroics of Hoffman after 85 minutes.

Cavin Johnson's charges had a chance to secure the win in stoppage time, but Bongi Ntuli failed to direct his header on target as both sides earned a share of the spoils.

Here's how they lined up:

Stars: Stars: 1. Hoffman, 3. Mlilo, 5. Sithole, 7. Shilongo, 11. Senene, 12. Mathe, 17. Khunou, 19. Links, 22. Ng'ambi, 27. Mphahlelem 29. Mabule.
