CAF Confederations Cup

Result: Platinum Stars 1-1 CS Sfaxien

Date: 21 June 2017

Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium

Platinum Stars remain winless in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, after they played out a 1-1 draw with CS Sfaxien at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

It proved to be a quiet opening 15 minutes at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, as neither side showed any attacking intent.

The game's first chance arrived after 35 minutes when the ball fell for Sfaxien's Mouhamed Waliou in the box, but the Senegalese forward blazed over the crossbar from close range.

The visitors carved out another chance in the 41st minute as Maher Hannachi broke into the box and fired just wide from a tight angle.

Dikwena, meanwhile, failed to offer any real threat going forward and went into the break with the score level at 0-0.

Stand-in coach, Willem Jackson opted for a change at the start of the second half, as Abia Nale made way for Sipho Nene.

Stars eventually broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Bongi Ntuli turned home Sphiwe Mnguni's cross with a fine first-time finish at the near post.

The Tunisian outfit responded by introducing Firas Chaouat replaced Wassim Kammoun in the 65th minute.

The changed paid off as Sfaxien managed to level matters in the 75th minute as Chaouat raced to they byline before picking out Hannachi, who slotted into the far corner from 12-yards out.

Jackson introduced Gift Links for Ndumiso Mabena in the 84th minute as Stars pushed for a winner in the closing stages.

Stars nearly found the winner in the 88th minute through Robert Ng'ambi, but the midfielder's header scraped the upright.

Nonetheless, the score remained 1-1 at the full-time whistle, as Dikwena remain rooted to the bottom of the group.

Here's how they lined up:

Stars: Stars: Mzimela, Mnguni, Mwedihanga, Mlilo, Mpeta, Mathe, Mere, Ng'ambi, Mabena (Links 84'), Nale (Nene 46'), Ntuli (Shilongo 86').
