Bidvest Wits ended their CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign without a single win after suffering a 2-0 loss to Djoliba in their final Group C encounter on Sunday.
Clever Boys head coach Gavin Hunt made wholesale changes, with only Thulani Hlatshwayo, Buhlebuyeza Mkhwanazi, Cole Alexander, Deon Hotto and Gift Motupa retaining their places from the loss to Horoya last weekend.
Wits got off to a bad start as Djoliba got the opener in the 15th minute after Bangaly Sanogo guided a header home from El Hadji Bah's cross.
The hosts had a chance to equalise in the 26th minute after Sameehg Doutie threaded a through ball towards Motupa, who fired his effort over the crossbar.
Hunt's charges were pressurised Djoliba in the latter phase of the first stanza but were unable to claw their way back into the contest before the halftime break.
However, the Malian side had a bright start early in the second stanza as Oumar Camara doubled the lead within a minute from the break with a strike from close range after he was teed up by David Ekwa.
Wits resorted to long range strikes after that and nearly pulled a goal back just before the hour-mark after Hotto let fly with a screamer that forced by Djoliba goalkeeper Aboubacar Doumbia into a top save.
Hunt made a triple substitution just after the hour mark, Eva Nga, Terrence Dzukamanja and Elias Pelembe came on for Motupa, Alexander and Mxolisi Macuphu.
Nga nearly made the perfect impact for the Clever Boys with ten minutes left with a header from close range that was saved by Doumbia as the encounter finished 2-0, leaving Wits bottom of the log without a win to their name.
