Celtic join Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates as South Africa’s representatives in continental competitions after they reached the Nedbank Cup final. Despite losing to Sundowns on the day, Celtic still managed to qualify for the Confederations Cup, thanks to Sundowns’ tag as league champions.

Celtic, who beat holders SuperSport United 2-1 on aggregate in the two-legged semi-final, secured their passage to the MTN8 final where they will face Pirates in December, have been dealt a tough draw in their opening CAF match.

Siwelele will make the trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo where they will take on log leaders As Maniema Union.

The club has managed to qualify for the CAF Confed Cup for the last three seasons running and will prove a stern test for John Maduka’s men. Should Celtic pass the Maniema test, they will then take on the winners between Futuro Kings (Equatorial Guinea) and Rivers United (Nigeria).

According to CAF the Preliminary Round first leg matches will be played over the weekend of 27 and 29 November 2020, while the second leg will be played on the weekend of 4 to 6 December 2020.

This could prove to be a gruelling festive period for Celtic, should they progress to the second round.
