Who is Pamplemousses?
Who Are Bidvest Wits' CAF Champions League Opponents?
You probably haven’t heard of Bidvest Wits’ first opponents in the 2018 CAF Champions League, and that’s because it’s been 10 years since Pamplemousses SC played in it.
The Mauritian champions last featured in the CCL back in 2007 when they were knocked out in the preliminary round by Highlanders of Zimbabwe.
It’s not the first time a South African team has been pitted against the team from Belle Vue Maurel, and they haven’t featured in any continental tournament since 2010’s CAF Confederation Cup exit to Mzansi’s Moroka Swallows where they were beaten 5-1 on aggregate.
But after finishing second, third, and second again in their three campaigns prior to last season, Tony François’ side secured their fourth league title in 2016/17 and are challenging once again this time around.
The team scored 77 goals as they won the title on the last day of last season, and they have scored 10 goals in three games so far in their current campaign. With four league titles and five domestic cups in the 17 years since their formation, the club is on the rise.
Wits will be at home in the first leg scheduled for the weekend of February 9th, with the second leg in Belle Vue Maurel set to take place one week later, but Gavin Hunt will no doubt be hoping to have half of the job done at Bidvest Stadium.
