Mamelodi Sundowns are finalising their preparations to take on their opponents from Togo in the CAF Champions League.
The Brazilians will play against AS Togo-Port on Tuesday. Having been hard at work during their pre-season, Downs look set to continue with their campaign in the prestigious continental competition.
Downs’ captain Hlompho Kekana says the team is aiming for a win.
“We had a break. It was good for us to be away from football a little bit. We are back now. It’s back to business. We want (to) try and start with a good run by winning the match in Togo so that we are in a good space in the group. A win will give us five points and we will be second in the group,” Kekana told Downs’ official website.
With the Brazilians already in the group stages of the Champions League, Pitso Mosimane and the team will want to go all the way like they have done in the past when they won the competition.
“We are aware of the standards that we have set for ourselves. Doing well in the Champions League is non-negotiable. We know that we are carrying a lot of responsibility as players to try and do well and put the club where it needs to be. We have shown in the past that we are capable of winning trophies. We have to maintain that and make sure that we continue doing well for the club,” concluded Kekana.
Downs and AS Togo-Port will play their match at the Stade General Eyadema in the Togolese capital of Lome on Tuesday afternoon.
