Mamelodi Sundowns are the only Absa Premiership side left in the CCL and heading into the group stages after they saw off Rayon Sport of Rwanda, while Bidvest Wits drop into the CCC following their defeat to Primeiro de Agosto of Angola.
Pitso Mosimane’s side will find out which three teams they will have to make it past, in order to make it out of the groups for the third consecutive year, with some of the strongest teams on the continent still remaining in the competition.
Wednesday’s draw will not only see the CCL group stages drawn but also the playoff round of the CCC where dropouts from the top-tier competition will face those in the second-tier tournament for a spot in the group stages.
There is a chance that Wits, who fell from the CCL, could face SuperSport United – who won their CCC game – in an all-South African tie for a spot in the groups, with both teams going into the hat.
Last year Morocco’s FUS Rabat and MAS Fez went head-to-head at this stage after the former dropped out of the CCL, but the South African sides will no doubt be eager to avoid each other.
There hasn’t been a time stated for the draw, only that it will happen in Cairo on Wednesday.
