Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Champions League opponents believe that they will have an advantage over the Soweto giants at FNB Stadium this weekend.
Following their disappointing 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership against Swallows on Wednesday, Chiefs will change focus to the continental competition when hosting Tanzanian giants Simba at Soccer City on Saturday.
After last weekend’s postponement of their match against rivals Young Africans, Simba had enough time to travel to Mzansi way ahead of their clash and have been in the country since Tuesday.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Simba board member Mulamu Nghambi reiterated the importance of winning against Chiefs in line with their plans to surpass the feat of last season.
“Of course, it’s a very important game for us. In the last two seasons we were in the quarterfinals and this season we are in the quarterfinals and our target is to become African champions. It’s very important for us to make sure that we win this game and the next one so that we can go to the semifinals, as well as the final later on. We are taking this game very seriously and that’s why we arrived here way ahead of the day of the game,” he said.
As confirmed by the club official, the team’s head coach Didier Gomez and the technical team have a full strength squad to face Amakhosi and the belief in their camp is that the absence of the fans at FNB Stadium will be an advantage to them.
“It’s going to be the first time that we will be playing Kaizer Chiefs, but we know that they are a very good team with a huge following in South Africa. But luckily, the supporters here are not allowed (into) the stadium and that’s an advantage for us. We watch the South African league, and I don’t want to comment further than that, except to say that we are on the same level and that’s why we will be playing in the quarterfinals of the Champions League with them. We are ready for the game. We have 27 players available for the coach to select from and we don’t have any injuries and the coach has the luxury of selecting the best team for Saturday’s game. Simba will win definitely,” added Nghambi.
