Ex-Sundowns Star: Tau A 'Marked Man' In CAF CL
A former Mamelodi Sundowns star believes the team, and especially star striker Percy Tau, will be marked men when CAF Champions League action resumes next month.
The Brazilians finished the first two rounds of Group C matches sitting third in the four-man table, just two points off the top of the table after drawing both of their opening fixtures.
Sundowns do, however, carry the pedigree of having won the tournament only two years ago, while they boast a star-studded side which includes Tau, who ended their title-winning Absa Premiership campaign as Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season.
It is that form that has left a giant target on the back of Tau and his team, according to former Sundowns and Bafana Bafana defender, Matthew Booth.
"I think Sundowns and Tau have got a reputation now so it's not going to be easy," Booth tells the Siya crew.
"I think he (Tau) is going to be a marked man."
Looking at Sundowns as one of the recent reigning champions, Booth said: "You can see that teams are treating Sundowns with a lot more respect, because of having won it (in 2016).
"I think the drive for Sundowns and the players will still be there, because they kind of went in through the back door, so they're going to want to do it the proper way and with a clean slate, so to speak.
"The drive will still be there, and of course, I think they've made it known that they want to have another go at the (FIFA Club World Cup)."
