I Want To Play For Kaizer Chiefs!
Baroka FC’s Thabiso Kutumela, the NFD’s top marksman, talks openly to Soccer Laduma’s Peter Raath about his form.
He also talks about his head coach Kgoloko Thobejane, Gift Motupa and Teko Modise - with the NFD Focus brought to you by BUCO.
Kutumela, who currently leads the NFD scorers’ chart with six goals in seven outings, explained his continued goalscoring form.
“I could have had seven by now, but I missed a penalty against Vasco because my shot didn’t have enough power. I like scoring against Santos. In our 3-2 win, I didn’t miss my spot-kick, while the other came from a combined effort before I slammed the ball home. Besides the Thanda match, I also got our winner in the Mbombela United game when I held the ball before shooting."
The on-form marksman had his coach, Kgoloko Thobejane, to thank for his red hot form.
“The reason that I’m scoring again is because my coach is playing me behind the striker. With Thobejane there’s little talking. On match days, he just says, “Ninety percent of the work is done at the gym so, guys, you know what to do. I’ll talk to you at half time.
“Also, he doesn’t like long balls, but rather a game plan which suits our style of play. Having been my coach back in the Vodacom League, he knows me well and keeps encouraging the team."
Thabiso, who is the younger brother of Chippa United player, Hlabane, also touched on his dream to play in Mzansi’s top tier football.
“I want to go to Kaizer Chiefs! It’s my father’s favourite team, so I’d like to see myself there. My best friend, Gift Motupa, left me to go to Orlando Pirates. I want to follow him to the PSL. Although he’s also a Chiefs’ supporter, most of my uncles love Pirates so right now they’re happy to see him in Bucs' colours."
In conclusion, Kutumela spoke about his idol Teko Modise as well as lessons learned from his friend Motupa, who now plays at a higher level.
“One day would like to be like Teko Modise. He’s a good player who I’ve followed from the age of 15 or 16.
“Gift taught me to be patient, then everything will be alright. He also said, “Don’t let others discourage you because players will try to do that. That’s why I’m doing okay and getting stronger. Playing in his old position, I believe that I can score 20 goals like Ace Bhengu did last season.” He added.
