Desiree Ellis And Banyana ready for Slovakia clash in Cyprus Cup
Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis, has said that Banyana are rearing for their first match against Slovakia in the Cyprus Cup.
Banyana are scheduled to commence their campaign against their European counterparts and Ellis says her charges are well prepared for the encounter and is looking forward to being what will be her first test following her recent appointment at Banyana head coach.
“We have worked on our defensive tactics since arriving in Cyprus. It’s important that we win the first match to set the tone for the rest of the tournament and increase the confidence of the players,” said Ellis.
The Banyana mentor further entrenched that the Cyprus Cup was part of a bigger plan to get the senior women’s national team to qualify for the Women’s Fifa World Cup in France 2019.
“For us, we have a vision and that’s France 2019 however, that begins tomorrow. We need to play a perfect game. Everything needs to come together and we’re looking forward to our first match against Slovakia.”
Ellis also noted that she will give players a chance to play against the higher level opposition.
“It’s important to give players a chance especially in a tournament that exposes players to European opposition. Our players need to be exposed to playing outside the continent. They need to understand the mentality that comes with playing on major stages and this tournament will serve to do that,” concluded the Banyana coach.
Ellis currently has a squad of 21 players and will begin her campaign against the Slovakians in a match scheduled to start at 13h00 today.
