Messi? Ronaldo? Modric? – Bafana’s FIFA Award Votes Revealed…
FIFA’s prestigious The Best Awards took place last night in London, with Luka Modric taking home the top gong, but who did the Bafana Bafana coach and captain vote for?
Take a look through Baxter & Hlatshwayo's votes in the gallery above
After the event, it is revealed who each national team coach and captain voted for in the process of deciding The Best Men’s Player of the year, with Stuart Baxter and Thulani Hlatshwayo picking their first, second and third choice for the year.
Each person’s first choice was given five points, second place is given three and third place given one as the votes from all over the world were tallied up to decide that it would be Modric – and not Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi – that would be crowned as The Best. Meanwhile, World Cup winner, Didier Deschamps, unsurprisingly picked up the award for The Best Coach.
But who did Baxter and Hlatshwayo vote for? And did either of them back the right horse? In a word, no. It’s a game of opinions, and neither South Africa’s coach nor captain picked a winning player or coach as their first choice.
Baxter:
1. Messi. 2. Hazard. 3. De Bruyne.
1. Guardiola. 2. Klopp. 3. Deschamps.
Hlatshwayo:
1. Ronaldo. 2. Modric. 3. Mbappé.
1. Zidane. 2. Deschamps. Guardiola.
Who would you have voted for as The Best Men’s Player?
