Bafana Bafana legends such as Benni McCarthy, Phil Masinga and Mark Williams will be on hand at Soweto’s We Are Football Festival ahead of the crunch clash against Nigeria.
The festival, which has been described as ‘a melting pot of various activities including music, 6-a-side football, legends appearances, family zones, exhibition zones’ will take place at the Nasrec Expo Centre tomorrow and Sunday, starting at 09h00.
The event director, Errol Madlala, said. “People have been talking about football expanding beyond just the 90 minutes. This event – We are Football Festival – is a bold step towards providing an extended experience for the consumer. We are not just targeting football fans – but we are looking at people who love music, outdoor events.
“This is something fresh – it is different. We have big names coming through like Benni McCarthy, Phil Masinga, Mark Williams. We are also bringing some famous faces from Nigeria to be part of this – because it is about celebrating being African. If you think about it, eight years later, we are now building on the 2010 World Cup experience.
“We want families to come in early around FNB precinct and join us. After the game, we have an after party at the Nasrec Expo featuring some of the country’s top music DJs.”
On Sunday, the event will take place in the build-up to Banyana Banyana’s encounter with Nigeria, with that game being shown via a public viewing area.
