Tau Sees ‘Exciting Times’ For Bafana After Nigeria Draw
Following his Man of the Match performance for Bafana Bafana today, Percy Tau says that it’s ‘exciting times’ for South African football if they can keep progressing.
Bafana kept their unbeaten record in this year’s African Cup of Nations qualifies intact as they fought back from behind to draw 1-1 with the Super Eagles, and it was Tau that created the equaliser as he put it on a plate for Lebo Mothiba.
The result means that as long as Bafana avoid defeat in their final game against Libya they will be on the plane to Cameroon next year, and they’re now five games without defeat having beaten Nigeria and Seychelles so far.
Tau, who is currently plying his trade for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, says that he’s excited for what’s to come.
Speaking to the media, he said, “They played with five at the back, which really tells you how cautious they were for the match. Obviously it didn’t go our way, but I think we played very well and we’re confident, and we showed everyone that if we’re confident enough we can come out in these big matches and try to win.
“Credit to the coach for our plan throughout the whole week, and I just think it’s exciting times for South Africa if we keeping move at the rate that we’re going.
Meanwhile, with regards to his classy assist, the former Mamelodi Sundowns man said, “For me, it was easier for Lebo to score, and it’s important for us to be a team. It’s never important who scores, we just have to work as a team, and he was in a better position to score.”
