Stuart Baxter: It Is Our Duty To Lift The Boys Up Following Cape Verde Defeat
Bafana Bafana head coach, Stuart Baxter, says that it is the technical team’s duty to boost morale in the squad after back-to-back defeats against Cape Verde.
Bafana will host Burkina Faso next month, October 7, in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter, where the national team will look to turn things around following two consecutive defeats last month.
The national team’s chances of qualifying for the prestigious competition has since decreased greatly, with Bafana now also set to replay last year’s qualifying encounter against Senegal, following a ruling by FIFA.
However, looking ahead, Coach Baxter named his official 25-man squad to face Burkina Faso next month, with the likes of Cape Town City’s Thamsanqa Mkhize and Bidvest Wits’ Reeve Frosler all among the surprise inclusions.
Speaking after the announcement, Baxter said, “After the disappointment of our two games against Cape Verde, the morale is definitely low but that is our (technical team) duty to lift the boys up. We need to get them firing again and I know the boys are capable of doing so.”
“It is one area where we will have to work on when camp starts (lifting their confidence levels). Burkina Faso has physically imposing players and we need to counter that with our natural flair and speed. I am confident if we play the way we did against Nigeria, we can come good again,” he added.
Bafana will assemble for national team camp on Sunday, October 01.
