Baxter To Bafana Imminent?
The drawn out saga of who will be the new Bafana Bafana coach seems to be coming to an end, with Stuart Baxter expected to be named in the near future.
SAFA have been on the lookout for Shakes Mashaba’s replacement since he was fired back in December and after names like Carlos Queiroz, Hugo Broos and Herve Renard were mentioned and moved on from, the post remained vacant.
Then, at the end of March, it was confirmed that SuperSport United had given SAFA permission to talk to Baxter about the Bafana job, with the Englishman being touted for a second spell with the South African national team.
With over a month having passed since that permission was given, SAFA announced on Wednesday that they have found their man and ‘finalised an agreement’ with him. Going on to say that ‘a formal and more detailed announcement’ will be made shortly.
Baxter confirmed to SuperSport’s Kamza Mbatha after SuperSport’s draw with Bloemfontein Celtic last night that he would definitely be with the club until the end of the season, however, he is the favourite to take over the Bafana post once the campaign comes to an end.
An announcement confirming the new coach is expected in the next 24 hours.
