Baxter Calls Up SSU Defender To Replace Coetzee
Stuart Baxter Has Called Up A SuperSport United Defender To Replace Rivaldo Coetzee
Head Coach Stuart Baxter has called up a SuperSport United defender to replace the injured Rivaldo Coetzee.
The South African Football Association confirmed on their official website yesterday, August 27 that Coetzee had been withdrawn from the South African national team squad after medical reports revealed that the player has an underlying problem with his foot, which subsequently saw his move to Scottish giants, Celtic FC fall through.
It has since been confirmed that SuperSport’s Clayton Daniels has received a call-up for national team duty, following Coetzee’s withdrawal.
"I went for Daniels because I wanted someone who would hit the ground running. We are going to Cape Verde not to experiment but for a result. We need two good results in these two games and that is of paramount importance," Baxter revealed on SAFA's official website.
Head Coach Baxter recently had to call up replacements for both Itumeleng Khune and Darren Keet, which saw Wayne Sandilands and Reyaad Pieterse step in for the duo.
Bafana will face Cape Verde in the first leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday, September 01, while the return leg is scheduled to take place on September 05.
The squad has since assembled to Bafana camp yesterday, August 27, with the European contingent expected to meet up with the team in Cape Verde.
