Baxter Ropes Man Utd Scout Into Bafana As Nigeria Spy
New Bafana Bafana head coach, Stuart Baxter, says he has one of Manchester United’s scouts helping him prepare for next month’s game against Nigeria.
Baxter is hoping to get off to a winning start on June 10th when Bafana take on the Super Eagles in Uyo, with the game kick-starting their African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Arguably the toughest game of the groups for South Africa, Baxter says that he has brought in someone from the UK to help him create a report on Gernot Rohr’s side given their two preparation games in Europe.
Nigeria drew 1-1 with Corsica at the weekend in the first of two friendly games and now travel to Paris to take on Togo tomorrow night.
Speaking to the media, Baxter said, “I’ve had probably three days away from SuperSport where I have put my Bafana hat on and I’ve gained some intelligence on Nigeria.
“I’ve got a Manchester United scout who’s helping us in Paris. Nigeria are playing Corsica at the Ajaccio Stadium in Corsica‚ and against Togo in Paris – and they’re being watched there.
“I’ll get reports on that. I’ve got video footage‚ I’ve got reports‚ I’ve got the coach’s background. So by the time we come to the event we’ll be quite well prepared.”
Bafana players will start to report for camp on Thursday and depart for Nigeria next Wednesday.
