Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba's position at the helm of the national team has been placed in doubt, and his exit from the national team is said to be imminent.
After failing to qualify the team for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations that will be held in Gabon next year, the state of the national team under the mentorship of Mashaba has been questioned by the SAFA hierarchy.
Siya sources have revealed that there are meetings going on behind the scenes at the moment, and the decision on whether or not the 66-year-old will continue to lead the men in the green and gold will be made in the coming week, and could even happen before SAFA's technical meeting on Saturday, 10 September.
Indications are that the hierarchy are unhappy with the country's performance under Mashaba's guidance, and SAFA could look for a replacement before Bafana gear up for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Unless a change of strategy is implemented by the hierarchy, Mashaba looks to be heading for the exit door, and it remains to be seen whether or not SAFA are able to find an ideal replacement before Bafana face Burkina Faso on 3 October for their first World Cup qualifier.
Gavin Hunt and Muhsin Ertugral are said to be the frontrunners for the job. However, SAFA will assess their options in the coming days.
