Fresh Blood! Chiefs & Bucs Starlets Handed Bafana Debuts
Bafana Bafana may have crashed out of the COSAFA Cup over the weekend, but a 4-1 win last night buoyed the mood slightly as several youngsters received their international debuts.
Stuart Baxter’s young side was beaten via a penalty shootout over the weekend to lowly Madagascar after missing a host of chances in normal time, with Luther Singh missing the decisive penalty as they were sent into the plate semi-final against Namibia.
While the team will be disappointed to be playing in the plate final rather than for the title later this week, Baxter will be happy to have given a runout to some of the younger players coming through the ranks at Bafana, with seven in total making their debuts.
Gift Links, Tareeq Fielies, Abednigo Mosiatlhaga, Paseka Mako, Siyabonga Ngezana, Fortune Makaringe and Lyle Foster all played some role against either Madagascar or Namibia, with several showing signs of why they’re considered as possible future prospects for more serious games like World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Bafana now face Botswana on Friday as they look to get another win under their belt.
