The Siya crew understands that the South African Football Association is planning on extending an invitation to the Cameroon Football Federation in a bid to get Bafana Bafana active in competitive international fixtures.
According to Siya sources, the 2019 African Cup of Nations hosts is being considered as possible opponents for Stuart Baxter’s charges during the course of 2018.
“Cameroon are an African powerhouse and since they are hosting the next AFCON it only makes sense for Bafana to play them as they will provide a stern challenge for South Africa,” revealed the source.
“SAFA is serious about rebuilding the national team and ensuring that the South African national team regains its footing in Africa, therefore the decision and processes of getting Bafana to play more African opponents in friendlies are in the process,” added the source.
The crew recently reported that SAFA’s Technical Committee together with the Bafana coach had met to outline a plan for the national team for 2018 and to ensure Bafana’s qualification to AFCON 2019.
Furthermore, it was also reported that SAFA were eager to get Bafana playing African opponents as opposed to European or South American nations.
