Bafana Stopper: What Baxter Told Us…

Ronwen Williams says that Bafana Bafana are keen to put the disappointments of 2017 behind them as they go into Saturday’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.
Williams, who is battling it out with Itumeleng Khune and Darren Keet for a starting spot, doesn’t want to linger on Bafana’s failure to reach the 2018 World Cup and instead is focused on picking up three more points to add to the ones gained against Nigeria last year.
It remains to be seen whether the SuperSport United man, who will play in his sixth cup final since 2016 later this month, will feature against the Libyans at Moses Mabhida, though he insists that Stuart Baxter's camp is united going into the encounter.
He told SAFA’s official website, “The mood is excellent in camp, all the guys are here. When the coach spoke to us first time when we arrived in camp he said whoever is not here there is nothing we can do about it, and there is a reason why the guys that are coming in have been selected. They have proven their quality, so we are looking forward to the match this weekend.
“We want to qualify, we want to put the points on the board. It’s our home game and we would like to put the disappointment of last year behind us, and we want to start on a positive note.”
It won’t be easy against a Libya side that beat Seychelles 5-1 in the first game of Group E, though a victory would put Bafana in the driving seat at the top of the table with four games left to play.
