Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Robson Muchichwa, believes that Owen Da Gama has proved that his decision to select Itumeleng Khune for the Olympics was right after the Chiefs stopper’s tremendous display against Brazil.
South Africa played out to a goalless draw in their opening match at the Olympic Games in Brazil, despite being reduced to 10 men, and Khune’s performance in goal has earned praise from Muchichwa.
“For me, it was a brilliant performance,” he told Soccer Laduma. “He did well and he showed his quality. He was excellent yesterday, he commanded very well and he led by example. He gave confidence to the youngsters as well.”
The 40-year-old went on to say that Khune’s performance on the night showed that it was a good choice to pick him as one of the overage players in Owen Da Gama’s squad.
“As far as I’m concerned he (Owen Da Gama) made the right decision to pick him,” he continued. “He’s a big player that’s going to guide the youngsters and do the right things on the pitch. Da Gama did well to pick him.”
