Orlando Pirates returned to South Africa from their trip to Egypt yesterday and three of their players will have to travel to Costa Rica today in order to link up with the Bafana Bafana squad on Thursday.
The Buccaneers departed from Cario at 11h45 (SA time) on Monday and flew via Dubai, arriving at OR Thambo at 16h25, meaning they travelled for a total of 40 hours and 40 minutes when they touched down in Mzansi.
Thabo Matlaba, Mpho Makola and Thamsanqa Gabuza are then expected to join up with the national team for their friendly with Costa Rica at the Baltodano Bricenio Stadium, in Costa Rica, scheduled to take place on Thursday at 20h00 (Friday, 04h00 SA time).
The trio spent the night in Johannesburg before jetting off from OR Thambo at 11h00 (SA time) on Wednesday and arriving in Costa Rica at 08h18 on Thursday (16h18 SA time). That means the players will have to endure a journey of 41 hours and 18 minutes.
The total of the two trips over the four days adds up to a staggering 81 hours and 58 minutes. With the Buccaneers already in the middle of a hectic schedule, the technical team will likely be concerned about the fatigue of their players.
Furthermore Matlaba, Makola and Gabuza will have just under 12 hours to get over their jet lag and acclimatise to conditions before the game against Costa Rica.
