Shakes Mashaba will be without Orlando Pirates’ Oupa Manyisa when Bafana Bafana take on Ghana in the African Cup of Nations tonight due to injury.
Manyisa, who scored in Bafana’s 1-1 draw with Senegal in their last game, picked up a knee injury in training last night, and it has now been confirmed that he has been withdrawn from the squad after failing to recover.
The 26-year-old had been dropped from Mashaba’s starting XI anyway, with Mandla Masango coming in to replace him, however the Bafana head coach will no doubt have been eager to use the Pirates man as an impact substitution at some point in the game.
Manyisa becomes the third Bafana player to be ruled out of an AFCON fixture after Rivaldo Coetzee and Thulani Hlatshwayo also missed games due to injuries picked up during the competition itself.
Bafana have to win tonight if they are to have any chance of making it out of the group stages, however even that might not be enough depending on the result of Senegal’s clash with Algeria.
