Orlando Pirates Goalkeeper: The 2018 FIFA World Cup Campaign Is Still Alive
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Wayne Sandilands is confident that Bafana Bafana’s belief in the slightest possibility of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be good motivation for the team going into the upcoming encounters.
The South African national team will host Burkina Faso next month, October 07 at the FNB Stadium, where Head Coach Stuart Baxter will keep hope alive in qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup set to take place in Russia next year.
Bafana’s chances of qualifying for the prestigious competition has been slimmed down a great deal, however, South African international, Sandilands believes that their dream of going to the World Cup is still alive.
“Well, for us as players, I suppose I can speak for myself personally – that campaign is still alive and kicking. I think we have to believe that, we have to believe that our dream of going to the World Cup is alive, otherwise, then it will be over before we even kick a ball against Burkina Faso,” Sandilands told the media in a press conference today.
“So, we believe that it is still possible, we believe that we can go there, but this game comes with a lot of responsibility, we have to win this game and it is three cup finals for us that are left. It is going to be a challenge but we believe and I certainly believe that we can still make it.”
“Well, the reality is that there is an opportunity to go to Russia 2018, so there (are) two things that can happen, you can either sit and be depressed about it and believe we are not going, or you believe that you can and there is a fighting chance and you fight for that chance and even there is a slight glimmer of hope, you hold to that and you fight for that, with having that mindset there is a possibility of going,” he added.
