Nigeria Coach Comments On 'Wonderful' Tau After AFCON Qualifier Stalemate
Nigeria’s head coach, Gernot Rohr, reserved special praise for Bafana Bafana’s Percy Tau after his Man of the Match performance yesterday, calling the forward a ‘wonderful player’.
Tau was a constant thorn in the side of the Super Eagles at FNB Stadium, and it was the 24-year-old that set up Lebo Mothiba for the equaliser after a Buhle Mkhwanazi own goal had put them on the back foot.
The attacker has been performing well for Royal Union Saint-Gilloise since joining them on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, and Rohr was certainly impressed with the performance that he put in against – among others – Leon Balogun, who plays for Brighton’s first team in the Premier League.
Speaking to the media after the game, the German coach said, “I give my congratulations to this wonderful player, Percy Tau. I hope to see him again, in a big team in Europe, he has all the qualities to be a player in England or somewhere, and he gave us a lot of problems. But collectively we were able to be here, and get the result we had to do.”
Meanwhile, he also made mention of Itumeleng Khune and Thulani Hlatshwayo, saying, “You have a very good goalkeeper also, you have a captain that is also a very good player.”
Bafana need just a point against Libya in March to seal their place at next year’s African Cup of Nations.
