Mark Williams: The Technical Staff Got The Bafana Bafana Team Wrong
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker, Mark Williams believes in his opinion that the Bafana Bafana technical team got their team selection incorrect after suffering back-to-back defeats to Cape Verde.
The South African national team dimmed their chances of qualifying for the prestigious FIFA World Cup set to take place next year, 2018 in Russia, after suffering defeat to Cape Verde in the qualifiers.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Williams believes that the technical team could have gone with a better line-up on Tuesday, September 05, implying that fielding the likes of Percy Tau sooner in the game, may have given team more attacking prowess.
“I couldn’t understand, if we wanted to go for a win we have to play. Technically, I think we got it wrong, but, as a coach sometimes, you will figure it out. Cape Verde was very smart, they outsmarted us technically,” the Bafana legend told the Siya crew.
“For me, if Dolly played on the one side, put Percy on the other side and attack. I think the coach got the technical approach wrong.”
It was a very disappointing game, you have 10 minutes left. You bring on Andile Jali before Tau, it didn’t make sense to me. I just think he got it wrong, in my opinion. The technical staff got it wrong with the team that they played. But, the question is, what is South Africa’s strengths? We are not physical players, we are very skilled,” he added.
