Radebe Reveals SAFA Presidency Ambitions, Again

South African football legend Lucas Radebe has mounted a bold challenge to those in power at SAFA to step down and let former footballers take over the reins in the country’s football association.

Radebe was named on the technical committee of SAFA back in 2020 – but has once again reiterated his desire to be involved in a bigger capacity within the structure and has heavily been linked with the SAFA presidency.

“I’ve always said it's my passion and positions for me doesn’t matter, what matters most is the role in football because I am part and parcel of football, deeply rooted in South African football, I am what I am today because of the game and for us as ex-footballers to fight for those opportunities and go in and be part of the structures of the football in our country is the main priority,” Radebe recently told journalists.

He further elaborated on why he felt change is needed from the current regime and why more ex-footballers deserve a chance to bring about that change.

“Football has changed and is in the hands of footballers and I strongly believe and I will always say this, change is needed and it is good in order for football to progress and be on a level where we can compete, not just compete but be consistent in competing, in developing, in achieving.

“We got to link those who are in leadership and in power to those running the game and I believe that footballers have to have a conversation on the future of the game, especially in this country,” he concluded.
