Gordinho On His First Bafana Camp
Kaizer Chiefs defender, Lorenzo Gordinho, is enjoying his first Bafana Bafana camp and says that there’s not that much of a difference from the U23 setup.
Gordinho, who has represented South Africa at youth level, was rewarded for his fine performances in the Amakhosi jersey with a shot at making his debut in the senior side this month, and he will be hoping to feature against Guinea-Bissau and/or Angola.
With the team training in Durban ahead of Saturday’s clash with The Wild Dogs at Moses Mabhida Stadium, the 22-year-old says interim head coach, Owen da Gama, had been monitoring him very closely at club level.
He told Chiefs’ official website, “I am used to the national team set-up, having been with the U23s… It is just a matter of meeting new players, but there is not much difference when it comes to team dynamics.
“The coach told me he that is happy to have me in the team. He gave me a warm welcome and I was delighted to hear that he had been monitoring my performances. He is proud to see me doing well at Chiefs. We are now focusing on training and gelling as a team.
“I am sure that from tonight (Thursday) we will start planning for our match against Guinea Bissau.”
Gordinho is one of a number of players who could make their Bafana debut over the next few days, and he will be hoping that this current call up is the first of many.
