Chiefs Star Set For Bafana Debut
Kaizer Chiefs defender, Lorenzo Gordinho, will be handed his Bafana Bafana debut against Zambia tonight, with Stuart Baxter revealing his central pairing.
The 23-year-old was one of the Amakhosi’s star performers this year in what was a difficult season for the club and while they didn’t win any silverware he was rewarded for his performances with a call-up to the last Bafana camp under Owen da Gama.
Now, with Erick ‘Tower’ Mathoho injured and Thulani Hlatshwayo on the bench, Baxter says that the young Chiefs man will get the chance to show what he can do on the international stage.
He told the media on Monday, "Tower will be out, partly because he had a concussion before he came on camp and then he also had a smack on his shoulder... So we'll have a young pairing. The skipper will be on the bench – I can give you that much. We'll have Lorenzo and Rivaldo.
"It will be an interesting pairing playing against a strong Zambia team. Can they cope? We'll see."
The Englishman is expected to make wholesale changes to the side that beat Nigeria 2-0 over the weekend, with Cape Town City’s Aubrey Ngoma also likely to make his debut for the nation.
