FIFA Committee Confirm Bafana Replay
FIFA Have Confirmed The Replay Of Bafana v Senegal
The Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions, chaired by Aleksander Čeferin, has confirmed the decision to replay South Africa’s clash with Senegal.
It was recently revealed that Senegal had been successful in their attempts to have Bafana Bafana’s 2-1 win over them nullified after the referee, Joseph Lamptey, was banned for life for ‘match manipulation’ with the governing body saying that the tie would be played again in November.
SAFA have since confirmed that they will not be appealing the decision ‘on moral and ethical grounds’, stating that they will ‘comply with the FIFA directive to replay the match’.
With that in mind, a statement was released earlier this week stating that the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions had confirmed the decision made by the Bureau for FIFA World Cup Qualifiers who ordered the replay.
The statement said, “The committee confirmed the decision of the Bureau for FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers, which had ordered a replay of the qualification match between South Africa and Senegal held on 12 November 2016.
"This confirmation came after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the lifetime ban of match referee Joseph Lamptey for match manipulation, the ruling imposed by the FIFA Disciplinary and Appeal Committees. The match will be replayed during the November 2017 international window, with the exact date to be confirmed in due course.”
